Havelock (Swaraj Dweep)
Havelock Island, often referred to as Havelock, is the biggest of the islands that comprise Ritchie’s Archipelago. Havelock Island seems to be one of the few locations in the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands where the government has promoted eco-tourism development.
This gorgeous island, which covers an area of 92 square kilometers, is renowned for its sun-drenched beaches, rich foliage, and tranquil surroundings. Havelock Island’s nature compensates for its popularity as a hub for adventure activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, hiking, fishing, and safari. This island is ideal for honeymooners, nature lovers, and adventure seekers.
Havelock Island’s History
Havelock is one of the few locations in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands union territory where the government has tolerated and supported tourist development, with an emphasis on eco-tourism.
Havelock Island escaped the worst of the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami, with no confirmed deaths.
A lighthouse was erected in 2005 at the island’s northernmost point, near Govinda Nagar.
A new name for Havelock Island was revealed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 30th, 2018.

Havelock Island’s Geography
The Andaman Islands are made up of around 300 islands. The combined names of the North, Middle, and South Andaman Islands are the Great Andaman Islands, although Havelock Island is blissfully located in the southern province. Havelock Island is one of the archipelago’s biggest islands, with an area of 92.2 square kilometers. Approximately 70 kilometers northeast of the main city of Port Blair, the island is only accessible by water. On the island, there are five villages: Govinda Nagar, Bejoy Nagar, Radha Nagar, Shyam Nagar, and Krishna Nagar.
Since the population of Havelock Island is few, it is well-suited for tourism. Tourists are mostly barred from visiting the isolated islands where indigenous peoples live. Tropical climate prevails on the island, with sea breezes frequently tempering the temperature. The usual temperature is between 23 and about 30 degrees Celsius. The region enjoys the southwest monsoon, which provides an average of 120 inches of rain every year and whirls from May to September.
Havelock Island, perhaps the most popular of the Andaman Islands archipelago, is an all-encompassing entryway to view life underwater. With kilometers of breathtaking coastline, sublime beaches, and surreal environment, Havelock Island’s geography also lends itself to hiking. Due to the island’s size and geographical position, a walking excursion is the most satisfying approach to explore it.
Havelock is also an eco-tourism hotspot due to its abundance of beaches, beautiful coral reefs, and dense forest cover. Havelock has seven beaches, which are designated by their numbers rather than their names. While Beach No. 1 is located near the jetty, Beach No. 7, also known as Radhanagar Beach, is the most popular of the bunch. Each year, the Andaman Islands attract almost 200,000 tourists, and the numbers continue to climb. Due to its location on the most popular tourist route, the Port Blair-Havelock Island-Neil Island triangle, Havelock is well worth the visit. We cordially invite you to visit Havelock Island, one of the most stunning treasures floating in Indian seas, known for its mosaic panoramas, vibrant colors, mahua trees, extensive coastlines, and tropical temperature.
Havelock Island’s Importance
Paradise is located not far from India’s highly populated cities. Havelock Island, the Jewel of India’s Andaman and Nicobar archipelago, is a short strip of land surrounded by the pristine seas of the Andaman Sea, resulting in miles of continuous shoreline sometimes inhabited by roaming elephants. Whether you want to sunbathe and paddle in turquoise shallows or try your hand at water sports like scuba diving or kayaking, our Andaman honeymoon packages will take you to some of the most famous white-sand, palm-fringed beaches in Asia – and the globe.
How to reach Havelock Island?
Port Blair is the main city of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and it is also the location of the archipelago’s only airport. Numerous carriers operate direct connections from India’s major cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, and Chennai. Flights nonstop will take between two and four hours. From Port Blair, there are many choices for traveling to Havelock, including helicopter (capacity is limited, so book in ahead); government ferry (three crossings per week); and private boat companies such as Makruzz (90 minutes).
