Mayabunder Andaman Tour Packages

Mayabunder is located in the northern section of the Middle Andaman, about 242 kilometers north of Port Blair. It is a low-key location with fewer tourist attractions than adjacent islands. It is recognized for its cultural quirkiness as a result of the presence of immigrants from Bangladesh and East Pakistan, ex-convicts, and a Burmese hill tribe known as the Karen who were placed here during the British colonial era.

Mayabunder’s Geography

Mayabunder is approximately 242 kilometers from Port Blair by land and 136 kilometers by boat. This location is 72 kilometers north of Rangat and 79 kilometers south of Diglipur, putting it between the two. Mayabunder is comprised of numerous sparsely inhabited settlements. The primary languages spoken here are Bengali, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. Mayabunder's population includes families from the Burmese Karen tribes who were brought there as cheap workers by the British.

Mayabunder's shoreline is surrounded by mangroves, and the beaches are not as popular as those on neighboring islands. Karmatang beach is stunning, with its vast expanse of grey volcanic sand and shallow seas.

Being mostly favored by travelers seeking unique experiences, this area is still developing as a tourist attraction, due to its poor infrastructure and less regular connection with the main town of Port Blair. As with Rangat, a lack of knowledge about the area and lesser-known methods of entry have left this settlement underexplored. Rangat is still visited by visitors traveling to Diglipur from Port Blair, although Mayabunder is located on the opposite side of Rangat and is thus only visited on occasion.

If you're planning a longer visit to Mayabunder, consider adding visits to the uninhabited islands nearby in your Mayabunder tour & travel package.

Mayabunder’s History

To comprehend the history of this spectacular location, one must bear in mind its different cultural origins. From Bangladeshi immigrants to a Burmese tribe to ex-convicts, everyone has influenced Mayabunder uniquely. Its documented history dates all the way back to the British colonial era. You may choose for our package Tour to Andaman, which will take you to all of the island's most historically significant spots.

Importance of Mayabunder Island

Mayabunder Island, located 242 kilometers from Port Blair and around three hours from Rangat, is a fantastic beach vacation destination. The island is situated in the northern portion of the Middle Andaman and is known for its magnificent mangrove creeks, as well as its enchanting beaches and islets.

Additionally, it is well-known for being the home of former Burmese Karen Tribes who worked as timber laborers during the British Colonial era. Karmatang Beach, Interview Island, Rampur Beach, and Avis Island are just a few of the prominent tourist attractions in Mayabunder.

Karmatang Beach is regarded as an eco-friendly location and also serves as a turtle breeding place. Avis is a small but strikingly beautiful uninhabited island known for its coconut plantation.

While Rampur's beach is well-known for its natural surroundings and mangrove forest, it is most renowned for the ruins of the German Jetty. On the other hand, Interview Island is well-known for its various freshwater sources. On the island's western shore, there is a cave that produces freshwater. Mayabunder is also an excellent location for water sports.

How to Reach Mayabunder?

Mayabunder is connected to Port Blair with regular buses that go along the Andaman Trunk Road via Baratang and Rangat. The buses depart from Port Blair early in the morning (about 4 a.m.) and run until 11 a.m. It's a strenuous nine to ten-hour bumpy trip through deep forest with boats connecting the islands.

Another, and unquestionably more pleasant, alternative is to take a ferry from Port Blair's Phoenix Bay Jetty to Diglipur (via Mayabunder). The voyage is around eight to nine hours long, depending on the weather. There are two weekly ferries, one on Monday and another on Friday; however, verify the schedules online or at the ticket counter since they are subject to change.

If you want to use a helicopter to reach the spot, you may do so from Port Blair. You may reach the island in 45 minutes by using the service. However, if you choose to incorporate helicopter service in your Mayabunder trip, you should be aware that daily availability is not assured due to the service being a private one.
